Just thought I'd put down a mini rant here.

Was doing well on my assassin , just travelling through the desert doing one of the Path missions when I disconnected. No big deal as I have a 4 hour time limit on my connection after which it automatically disconnects. Came back later and omg 1 death!!! I wan't even in a battle when I disconnected.

Now I just wonder if on the server side it still registered me as connected, and kept going. So I should have logged on immediately after I disconnected, to log myself out of the old session.

Well what's done is done. I'm kinda over the whole survivor thing anyway. But just maybe something to watch out for. Grrrr.

who the hell cares. why do you feel the need to prove it to anyone? some guy doesn't believe you your gonna email him all your screenshots?

Anyone who got this title in another way other than lvling up like they normally would is a dork.

EDIT:didn't quote the guy

Yea there is! I did everything involving getting the survivor title with henchies and there was 0 xp farming unless you want to count skill capping as xp farming. I have been doing some pvp with him and sometimes play completely careless in pve just because I can so I have died about 100 times since getting the title

No offense to people who got this title legitimately, but I've also seen buttheads with a survivor title quit out of a PUG when things got a little tough.

The real trick to getting this title is to disconnect as soon as things start to go wrong. I hate the survivor track and hope Anet does away with it.

I agree! I've been on teams with people who do that. It is very annoying. I try to avoid PUGs as much as possible now.

I got mine fair and square. But I heard it is easy for a Ritualist to get Survivor as long as they know what they're doing anyway.

I only made it to Survivor (1). But I've only died 40 times. So...whatever.

That's quite an accomplishment Sluggy, congratulations are in order =)

You got all the needed exp through questing / missions alone?

Thanks - It took me 129 elite caps and basically every canthan mission/quest through eternal grove/gyala hatchery(except 2-3 from silent surf/levi pits). The tricky ones to hench were eternal grove and boreas seabed. I was convinced before I started doing the cantha missions that I was going to need to buy some scrolls and just kill level 24's with some hench backup but thankfully it never came to that due to the insane 3000xp quest rewards. If I had to estimate i'd say 645,000 came from elites - 600,000 from missions/quest rewards - and the rest from just killing stuff while out elite capping and what not.

I had plenty of scares and actually almost died in the maguma jungle to some lvl 12 wind riders(talking less than 30 hp with conjure phantasm on me) before I hit s2 which would have made me cry. I also got pretty low from group of 3 hydras on my way to get the last 1000 exp from a quest in crystal desert which was one of the most horrifying experiences I have ever had playing a video game.

I should mention that is a recent screenshot and I didn't get protector/canthan gmc titles until after I got survivor 3. Luckily my only restarts were after dying to orosen shortly after getting s1, and another time to about 12 crimson skull on the newbie island RIGHT after I got my L70 armor which was very frustrating. I wouldn't have had the patience to try again if those wind riders I mentioned before killed me so I guess you could say I was lucky. GL to everyone going for this!

That's a whole lotta caps, dang. Thanks for the information though, gonna try to make the best of it right now =)

I just had a nasty experience at s1 too. Died with my Warrior while attempting to kill a nasty Warrior boss in Cantha (that moron with triple chop). I had just gotten s1 then =/

I have to say I disagree with a lot of this.

My mesmer just gained Survivor Title, getting to 20 without dying (very easy, really), but my aim is legendary...however, i ain't gonna try and get it by playing the game in a way that is truely gimped to get it, a monk asked me in a mission "i haven't healed you once, what are you using??"...Caution! and I used to be a pre-booktrick tank so i know some things about mobs, evading, agro, kiting, whatever it all helps... none of my skills are gimped, and IF, a HUGE if i get to legendary survivor, i will know i'm one of the few that truely earnt it via skill and cunning and my knowing exactly what's going on... even if nobody else does. I wan't to play for my XP, not farm for it.

My advice, either play for the title, FoW is fantastic XP and offers good fun, for example, or just forget about it - it's not for you.

Some things that I have done is in pre-searing just get the essential skill quests. I then got run from Ascalon - Yaks - Becons - LA - TOA - Sanctum Cay. Once I got to Sanctum Cay I went to Factions to get the elite armor as well as Protective Spirit (Keep this + Mending on 24/7)

You then pay for a PRIVATE runner for the Sanctum Cay mission - can be pricey.

Once you're in the desert, get a tour. I then bought 25 berserker scrolls and found a power leveler to just do the minotuar until level 18 and a half, exp should be 125k or so. You then find a runner for elona reach Bon + Mis, runner for Dunes Mis only, and a NON-IWAY runner for thirsty river, bring 2 skill caps and cap those 2 skills. You should then be level 20 and should ascend. Read how to beat doppleganger or you will die. After you ascend, go back to seekers refuge, destiny's gorge, and hero's audience and do the profession quests so you can change profession quickly, easily, and free.

I then redid the Dunes of Despair Mission 4 more times and capped the elites for all professions. Do the same w/ Dragon's Lair. You will be at about 260k xp without even getting to droxnar's forge.

One thing that I suggest is being a monk primary so you can always heal yourself. I also am doing this with another friend who is also a monk, it's easy to create a party when the first two people are monks - everyone wants in. You can create the party you want to. It's also smart to buy signet of devotion and signet of rejouvination in cantha. This lets you heal people for free and keep mending + pro spirit on yourself at all times. With 2 monks healing people for free it's easy to maintain energy and use word of healing in emergencies on party members. I find that this is a good way to not have to bail on the team. Thus far, I haven't had to leave a group yet. I'm at 245k xp w/ 3 caps to still get in thirsty river and dragon's lair and think this is the best way to get title. When we get to drox we will do the same thing, creating the best party (who doesn't want to join 2 monks). I find that rangers are best in numbers - better then nukers because they do mass dmg w/out messing up aggro.

My friend has died once, I've died 5 times, 3 in pre-searing getting the necessary quests, once on doppleganger from a MSN, and once from something else. The key is taking your time. We get maybe 25k a day or so then farm UW for awhile on our other chars. The key to remember is taking your time.

Also, plan on NOT doing dangerous missions (the last mission). Remember, don't bother mapping until you have the max survivor title because if you die you wasted time mapping + need to start over. Don't play w/out your partner. Save the Ascalon area quests until you're near level 3. It's what we're planning on. I'll keep you posted. Note: if you do die, it only takes about 4-5 hours to get back to level 20 doing what we did.

So, I decided to make a surivor character myself ! A mesmer, to make things more interesting ^^

First thing I did was do the main quests in pre searing - once I had my second profession, I was out of there ! The pvp battle wasn't promising, as we were with 4 lvl 3's, and they had a 6 and 7, so I left ( Yes, I'm sorry, but the ele started atacking me, there was no way I was gonna survive that battle ! our monk was down too ! )
So, once I logged on , cleared the cave, slayed the boss and jumped into my time machine so I could travel 2 years in two secs
First thing I did in ascalon was get a new armor and visit some collectors for some descent gear ! Than I henched myself to nolani academy ! I would advice u guys to do all the bonusses, they're easy and are 1K xp !
I was planning on asking a guildy to come and powerlvl me in nolani, just a few lvls ( Yes, I'm sure u can powerlvl in nolani - there are a lot of lvl 9 charr at the start of mission )
but noone wanted to help ><
Than I had to log off :| I'm at 25K xp atm
plans to get rank 1 : do some more quests, get a runner to LA ( can't be hard, LBS ftw ) and get max armor in kaineng ! than go on to amnoon, get a full ascension run, ascend and than i'll have rank 1 From that point I hope to solo certain enemies and go on FoW runs !

we'll see how it goes - wish me luck !

It's cool to have this title, and right now I'm trying to get it with my dervish. I transfered already my Ritualist into NF to discover the missions before I join it with my dervish. Personally I hate leavers as well and I'm trying not to do this way of getting the title, so first I join in with my Ritualist and then I try with my dervish.

Btw, getting the title without farming xp is 100% impossible. My Ritualist got 700.000 xp from all missions and loads of quest from Factions and Prophecies, and right now I can't find more places to earn xp else then farming, so who says he did the title with only doing missions once and all quests, is an uber liar.

Anyways, I'll post a screenshot when I got the title, and report when I died. (which I don't hope) Until then, wish me luck. :P

Woot, a survivor title thread! I just failed my first survivor attempt (well, my warrior was at about 221,000 XP, so I had Survivor (1) already...), and I'm pretty devastated right now. Just blew a fortune buying the maxed armor in Kaineng, then tried to do the quest so I can get to Elona, log off as I start to get in trouble... There must have been some kind of lag on the server, because when I logged in again and checked my deaths, it returned 1 death...

When I rearranged the interface to suit my tastes, I pushed the HP & Energy bars a bit apart and fit a logout button right in the middle. When things get dicey, as they occasionally do, I click that button, press the space bar, and am outta there. Worked dozens of times, and I don't usually wait till last second either, but now because of some stupid lag, the character I had invested nearly 80 hours on is wasted

I don't do PUGs with my survivor character, because henches are so much more reliable. Players out there aren't all incompetent, but the chances that you get a group where *everyone* knows what they are doing are pretty slim in my experience. I actually did only one PUG attemt at Zen Daijun, warned the teammates before we went in, but they all got killed off early on, and I was the only survivor... I didn't bring rez on my W/Mo, so it was a bust... ~_~;

Anyway, I think I'm going to try again as warrior, because it actually worked pretty well. I should just have stayed back and let the henchies grapple with the lv 24 enemies, what did I bring 7 of them for?
However, I'd like to know if there are other professions that make getting the title easier. I have a lot of patience, it doesn't have to be super quick. What I want is a character that can pick off single enemies of a group with ease, even if they are numerous and stronger than myself. Self-reliant is the word. Is there a profession out there that is really suited for that?

By the way, assassins have it considerably easier now after the Nightfall update, as you can now put that recall skill to good use. Just have your hero stand back, cast recall on him and cancel it when things get dicey to exit the battle. Even safer than logging off, unless you get spiked and suffer from huge health degen. If you have a hero, you can even take the rest of your henchies into battle with you.

I'm determined to raise my next attempt a little faster (and scrimp even more with accepting quest rewards before level 20...) At least I could salvage all my runes. A superior vigor rune on a low level char makes one hell of a difference. Before Nightfall, only a fool or someone insanely rich would put a full rune set on noob armor... Personally, I found it very satisfying to get 300+ XP for killing Zinjuu Lightcrawler at level 3...

I hope I won't make a stupid mistake this time. Good luck everyone else who is trying for Legendary Survivor, and if you see the lag monster, give it a big kick from me!

Being able to exit the game and being able to kill lvl 16 monsters or trolls etc for months removed the eliteness from this title all together.

The guide seems short and somewhat vague. I recall looking at it a couple of months ago and although it seemed geared towards lvl1 survivor only back then, it was more elaborate.

For example, you suggest heroes. That's just the first step. Then comes the choice of classes. (Where do you obtain them quickly? Who is worth getting? etc), where to level them, how to equip them and which builds to use to increase your chances of survival.

Also I must say I don't like the prominence of farming methods to get there. I know people are always looking for an easy way, but why not gear it to help those who actually go for it in a more honorable way? Do you really need to point farmers to being the doorman in FFF? I'd rather see a questing lvl16 in Tyria get some help.
